About

Our world is more complex, dynamic, and interdependent than at any time in recent history. Despite current financial, geopolitical and environmental turmoil, we also live in a time of great optimism – about what can be known and what can be accomplished, about our potential to discover and innovate.

To explore this potential, The Council on Competitiveness and Seed have formed a partnership to launch The State of Innovation, a comprehensive program examining the relationship between science, technology and business and how their convergence can spark a new climate of innovation in America.

The program will begin with the State of Innovation Survey, administered to CTO’s, Heads of R&D, and Innovation Managers at companies from various industries across America. The Survey will explore the current process of innovation in science and business, and how it can best be leveraged to strengthen competitiveness.

On June 23 2009, Seed and The Council on Competitiveness are producing a one-day conference entitled ‘The State of Innovation Summit: Moving beyond lab and boardroom’ at the Newseum in Washington DC. The Summit will address the key roles played by design, cross-disciplinary collaboration, comprehensive policy, and scientific innovation itself, in preserving and enhancing a climate of innovation in American business.

Insights drawn from the State of Innovation Survey and the State of Innovation Summit will be compiled in a visual white paper that will be published in Issue 24 of Seed, hitting newsstands in the beginning of September, and will premier on this site in the end of July.
